The Timmasagar Temple Main Road in Vidyanagar area of Hubli city is a 385 metre long road. The width of the road is 9 metres. It connects two major arterial roads.

The road is 50 years old and is an important road in the Vidyanagar locality.

The condition of this road during the past 25 years was quite bad with lot of potholes. The commuters of the road faced lot of hardships in using this road. The residents of this road started a campaign in the year 2006 demanding immediate asphalting of this road. The Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) finally undertook the road asphalting in August 2007.

Road Insured in 2007

Dr. Mrityunjay C. Sindhur, a resident of Vidyanagar locality, insured this road for a sum of Rs. 2,00,000 for a period of one year on August 2, 2007. A premium of Rs. 303 was paid to the Oriental Insurance Company Limited. As per the policy, the insurance company would pay HDMC for the repair in case of any damage to the road, barring man-made ones.

The insurance policy has been renewed in the year 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Insurance Renewed in 2008

The insurance policy was renewed in the year 2008 by the Timmasagar Residents' Association. A premium of Rs. 910 for an assured sum of Rs. 6,00,000 was paid. (Source: Residents join hands to make road safe)

Insurance Renewed in 2009

The policy was again renewed in 2009 by a group of nine concerned residents. A premium of Rs. 893 for an assured sum of Rs. 6,00,000 was paid as the annual premium to the insurance company. (Source: It is people's road now)

Insurance Renewed by Children

This year the policy is being renewed by children of the area. The children have mobilized Rs. 596 from their piggy banks for paying the premium. The amount was short of Rs. 78, which was borne by the Residents' Welfare Association. (Source: How piggy banks paid for road insurance)

The road entered the Limca Book of Records (2008 edition) thus becoming the first municipal road to be insured.
